The Charlotte Pro League launched in 2005, and is an initiative of the Charlotte Tennis Association. The Pro League brings together the best players in Charlotte to compete on teams. Teams compete for the Championship title, a little prize money, and more importantly, bragging rights until the next year. Men and women are drafted to teams from the best 5.0 and above level players in the area. Each week team matches are scheduled at rotating tennis venues, designed to provide a fun event for the larger tennis community. Spectators are treated to exciting and spirited high level doubles competition.
In 2012, Pro League organizers and players demonstrated their passion for the sport across all levels by forming a charitable association with the Charlotte Special Olympics tennis program. Weekly matches provide a platform to create a greater awareness for these Special Olympic athletes and the local program. Activities include exhibition matches, collection boxes for gently used racquets and shoes and bake sales. The Pro League has also committed to donate a portion of their proceeds, and several Pro League players are giving their time to assist with the Special Olympic tennis practices.
The Charlotte Tennis Association and the Charlotte Pro League are looking forward to continuing and expanding this association in the future.
